Thank you. I too have lost friends from high school, and work places who never made it into their mid sixties, a few not even into their thirties. I also lost my mum ten years ago this August. I miss her more than ever, especially as I cannot share my new granddaughter with her. Life goes on, and for all of us who are still here, well, let's be kind and make the most of each and every day. Be thankful for those creaky knees and the laughter lines ( I am not calling them wrinkles!). Appreciate the time with friends and family. Live a good healthy life.
I agree we all don't appreciate the fact that we are fortunate to be able to grow older, everyday is a new day and I am lucky to be able to enjoy it with my many new friends and "old" friends. I like looking at my busy calendar of fun things to do and deciding just what my day will be filled with!!
I am with you on this perspective of aging, mingling survivor's guilt with gratitude. Time is precious and I won't waste it on things that don't matter. Thanks for your post Sally.
As I inch each day toward 55 it is easier now to be grateful than ever before. I appreciate your writing and your attitude. I am still in the “I can’t believe my nephew is 16” stage, but my daughter turning 25 soon is a bit of a shock. Time has its way with us and to be fully present is a gift and a goal each day.
It’s a joy to see the next generation come of age. We are still in those years when time goes by so quickly and a lot is happening, but it still feels like many new and wonderful things are yet to come. Lucky us! And I’m glad you enjoy my writing.
You ask whether you have the 'right' to complain about your age, but why complain at all? I am 83 (so, yes, old, BUT lots older than you are) and think it is a great time of life. So much confidence in yourself, so much wisdom to offer, if you're lucky some wonderful grandchildren to enjoy – I am enjoying myself immensely. This is not to say that I think it is very unfair that some die early, but just to emphasise how many positives we have. Just keep active or you will lose the ability to do so. https://arichardson.substack.com/p/just-keep-going

Thanks for sharing your story, Rosie. I think we will be doing our futures selves a favor by having a positive attitude and gratitude.
You’ve got the right attitude!!
I think it will keep me grateful and appreciative of life as I am lucky to age.

Thank you for reading and your comment. We need each other to help us get through these years ahead!

This is a wonderful reminder, Sally. To be grateful for our ‘old(er) age as the alternative is not what anyone wants.
